OUR STORY

Concerned for the present generation and passionate about improving the state of education today; as parents and as educators who have had extensive experience teaching and tutoring; we felt the need to start a Resource Centre where we could share our experience in education with families who would want to explore alternative education in Malaysia.

ALYSSA KOH

Alyssa Koh has always believed that as children are the next generation, it is necessary to invest into their lives. This she deeply believes in doing not only through facilitating academic success, but in students exploring their creativity, learning to think critically, and developing life skills all through planned experiences.

Alyssa holds a Bachelor (Hons) in Early Childhood Education. Brought up in a family that helped to pioneer homeschooling in Malaysia, Alyssa was homeschooled by her mother until she sat for her IGCSEs at 16. She is passionate about seeing children become independent learners from a young age through guidance and empowerment and has enjoyed many years of teaching in Sunday School since she was 12. When she was a child, Alyssa’s first ambition was to become a teacher, and today the enthusiasm for teaching is still as strong.

I’ve been in BHLC for two months and have really enjoyed my experience here. The school provides a wide range of subjects to choose from. This allows the students to have freedom to pick what they’re interested in. The school’s self-learning system allows students to study at their own pace.

This is excellent for slow and fast learners alike. The number of students at the school minimises conflict and bureaucracy, something I personally enjoy. Overall, I really recommend this school and it’s worth considering over traditional public schools.

At BHLC, the teachers were such a blessing to me in my preparation for my IGCSE exams. They provided me with a vast amount of insights on my subjects, especially when doing past year papers with IGCSE.

They were patient and understanding when explaining to me the areas which I was weak in and helped provide tools for me to use for my exams and further studies.

Everyone in BHLC were very kind and welcoming, instead of the stifling and stressful atmosphere in many other educational institutions, BHLC has a warm and close family like atmosphere.

I'm very thankful and glad to have teachers who are caring, wise and patient at Beyond Horizons. My studies and English language have improved tremendously as compared to when I was in a Chinese medium school. All students here are encouraged to learn based on our abilities therefore increased my confidence level and self-esteem. I am able to learn and absorb more information because of the confidence in myself.

Unlike the previous school, personal attention is given to me on areas that I lack. We learn through hands-on experience and through play.
Best of all, there is no homework because all that need to be learned is completed in school. My parents and I are very happy and less stressed up. Thank you teachers at Beyond Horizon for nurturing me and my school buddies in developing our gifts and talents for a brighter future.
